Since I just released a new Christmas album, I wanted to share some songs and stories with you from now until the new year.  So here’s “Christmas Song Stories #1″.  This song is called “What Kind of Child”, and I wrote it with the super-talented Jadon Lavik a couple months ago.  We’re currently on tour together with the “A Christmas Together” gang – Tyrone Wells, Molly Jenson (Cutrone), Pawnshop Kings, and more.

I’ve always been enamored by the Gospel accounts of the ancient arrival of the God-Man.  Even the side characters in the stories are incredible to me.  Joseph – betrothed to Mary the mother of the God-Man.  He finds out his wife-to-be is already pregnant.  This brings him to a place of tremendous uncertainty and despair, to the point where he’s about to call the whole marriage off and change the course of his life altogether.  But God intervenes and speaks peace to him.

The wise men – traveling through the middle-eastern desert following… a star.  Who does that?  I can imagine the conversations they might have had – “What are we doing?” and “Seriously, a star.  Are we crazy?”  But God intervenes and speaks peace to them.

This song is a song about God bursting into our dark and dreary human affairs with His unstoppable peace.  This is literally what He did when “the Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood.”
