“Christmas Music” is Here!

My friends and I have been busy cooking up some festive treats for you. Well, I couldn’t be more excited to announce that…  IT’S READY!  The Christmas record is here!  11 tracks for $10 flat.  And this Christmas, it’s only available right here at www.evanwickham.com.

This is a DIGITAL ONLY album.  That means that are no CDs.  You just download the mp3s immediately upon purchase.  BUY NOW  You even have the option to “GIFT” the record to someone else once you purchase it.  ’Tis the season.

FYI – when you buy the new record, you get the ipod/iphone/ipad friendly live-in-living-room video of “Hark” thrown in for free.  (The vid at the top of this article).  You may then take it with you wherever you wassail.  So Christmassy.

There are two things in God’s good world that captivate my heart in a uniquely special way.  Two things that have tenderly surrounded and cradled me since before I could either walk or speak.  They are Christmas and music.  For me, Christmas has always been a treasured time of adoring Christ and making sweet memories with loved ones, and music was the very swaddling cloth that warmed my young frame, ushering me into my calling as a worship leader and songwriter.  Christmas and music have been two of my favorite things for as long as I can remember.

Well, now I’m a grown up – and I’ve decided to combine the two.  Coincidentally, I’ve decided to call it, simply, “Christmas Music Vol. 1″.  ”Christmas” for the memories past, “Music” for the calling present, and “Vol. 1″ for the seasons of festive music yet-to-come.  Dickens anyone?

This project has some fun twists and turns.  From church bells to chestnuts, from Charlie Brown to my own children, from old carols to modern covers and even some fresh original material… this record covers all kind of wintery ground.  And I’m overjoyed to share it with you.

Stick around www.evanwickham.com for more conversation about “Christmas Music”.  I’m looking forward to sharing my heart with you regarding this collection of Christmas songs!

Amazing sound! I love it. Brings the true spirit of Christmas to my heart. I only wish it was on a CD so I could play it in my car and at home. Unable to download. :-(

Bro, I'm excited to hear the back story for "End of Exile." Such a great song, and it's really resonating with me theologically right now.

  • Evan wrote on November 26, 2011

Hey Kenneth! Warms my heart to hear that :). I'd love to hang again. That hymn is based fairly closely upon the old Christmas hymn "Maker of the Sun and Moon". I found those lyrics online but didn't know the original melody. So I wrote a new one! :) Then I wrote that chorus and stuck it in there. It's one of my favs on the record now. I'm pumped you dig.

  • Kenneth wrote on November 26, 2011

Excellent! You did an amazing job with the melody! Thanks so much for the effort and putting this song on the record...gives me an avenue to worship in a fresh "exile-ending" kinda way...Love it! I'll be in SD for 5 weeks soon. I look forward to reconnecting.

Ok I need the background as well a cast of characters for the friendly beasts melody. So sweet!! And while I'm at it I adore the album, thanks for the hope of vol 2.

Dear Evan, Thank you for making such a beautiful Christmas album. I've always thought that some of the best worship music is Christmas music. So glad to hear that this is just volume 1! Keep pursuing God and taking us along for the journey.

Sorry to write again, but is that a different language in the background on Way to Joy? What is it saying?

  • Evan wrote on November 28, 2011

Write anytime! :) Yes, the unintelligible refrain in the background of "The Way to Joy" is Isaiah 53:5 in the original Masoretic Hebrew.

That was my reaction to it when I first heard it. Andy Gullahorn and Jason Gray really hit that one outta the park.

Hi Evan, I love all your music and I'm really enjoying the new Christmas album. Any chance you have a chart for "The Way to Joy" that you can email me? Such a great song! I might teach it to my church in Santa Barbara next week. Thanks brother. -Andy

  • Evan wrote on December 6, 2011

Hey Andy! Thanks for asking. I don't have charts for the Christmas tunes yet. Maybe soon. Stay tuned!

  • Ben wrote on December 8, 2011

Evan, just had a quick question. I've been looking for some fresh Christmas music, and was so excited to see that you released an album, but is there any way we could preview the songs online before we buy? Just wondering. Peace to you!

  • Evan wrote on December 9, 2011

Thanks for your question, Ben. I'll continue to post several "Christmas Song Stories" here on my blog. You'll be able to listen to entire songs and hear the stories behind them. Part 1 with "What Kind of Child" is already up!

  • Ben wrote on December 11, 2011

Thanks for responding so promptly Evan! I have such respect for you and your brother, Phil, as incredibly talented, Christ-centered men with genuine hearts for God and others. Sorry if that's a weird compliment to give over the internet! I just listened to "What Kind of Child" and "End of Exile" and am loving the album's sound; I don't know how long I can hold out without buying it.. :)

"Way to Joy" is unreal on this Christmas album - absolutely love it. Well done. Different subject, different album, but does anyone know where the lyrics to "Waterfall" are posted. Great song, but I'm not catching 100% of the words.

  • Been Heimos wrote on December 18, 2011

Evan, my family and I so enjoyed your performance at RockHarbor in Costa Mesa,CA. How can I get a copy of the lyrics to "What kind of child is this?". We all found it to be the most beautiful Christmas song sung about the Baby Jesus. With the warmest wishes for this Christmas season, Bern Heimos

  • Evan wrote on December 24, 2011

Hi there! Thanks for posting. I don't know if "Waterfall" is posted anywhere. After the new year I'll post lead sheets to some of my older songs. Thanks again!

  • Evan wrote on December 24, 2011

Hello Bern! Glad you dig that tune. I don't have the lyrics published in written form yet. Next year! Thanks for asking :)
